About
Akagera National Park, located in eastern Rwanda near the Tanzania border, covers about 1,120 km² of savannah, wetlands, and forests. It is known for its scenic landscapes, including lakes and papyrus swamps, making it the largest protected wetland in Central Africa.
Wildlife
The park features the Big Five—lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino—as well as giraffes, zebras, hippos, and nearly 500 bird species including rare ones like the shoebill stork.
