About

Covering approximately 4,577 km², Mole is the largest and most prestigious national park in Ghana, situated in the northern savannah zone. Established initially as a wildlife refuge in 1958 and officially declared a national park in 1971, it features diverse habitats including savannah grasslands, riparian forests, and riverine ecosystems formed by the Levi and Mole Rivers. The park supports a mix of large mammals and bird species, conservation research, and ecotourism while playing a vital role in protecting the natural heritage of the region.


Wildlife

Mole is home to over 90 mammal species including one of Ghana’s largest elephant populations, kob antelope, roan antelope, and baboons. Birdlife is rich, with nearly 350 species recorded, including the martial eagle and bateleur eagle. Other notable mammals include the African buffalo, honey badger, and warthogs. The park provides excellent game viewing through guided game drives, walking safaris, and birdwatching excursions.
