Addo Elephant National Park

About
Established in 1931 to protect just 11 surviving elephants, Addo has expanded to over 1,640 km², encompassing diverse landscapes including dense valley bushveld, Karoo, coastal dune fields, and marine reserves. This malaria-free park boasts five of South Africa’s seven biomes, supporting rich biodiversity. Significant conservation efforts have made Addo a refuge for elephants, rhinos, lions, leopards, and buffaloes, as well as marine life like great white sharks and southern right whales across its marine section.
Wildlife
Addo hosts over 550 elephants, black rhinos, buffalo, lions, leopards, and a variety of antelopes. Unique features include flightless dung beetles and marine species on coastal islands. With over 450 bird species, the park is a birdwatcher’s paradise. Guided game drives, walking safaris, and coastal excursions offer diverse wildlife viewing opportunities.
