About

Covering about 1,400 km², Matusadona is situated between the Matuzviadonha Mountains and Lake Kariba’s shoreline. It was established in 1975 and features an exceptional blend of escarpments, mopane woodlands, and floodplains. The park's diverse habitats support large populations of wildlife and fisheries, with opportunities to explore culturally rich Tonga communities nearby. Matusadona is known for conservation efforts focused on black rhinos, cheetahs, and other endangered species, making it a hidden gem offering combined terrestrial and aquatic safari experiences.

Wildlife

Matusadona harbors elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo, zebra, hippos, sable, and roan antelopes. Cheetahs and wild dogs are notable predators within the park’s boundaries. Birdwatching is superb, with close to 400 species including fish eagles, vultures, and hornbills. Visitors can spot wildlife on land safaris and boat cruises on Lake Kariba that complement the park’s aquatic ecosystem.
