About
Spanning about 2,850 km², Tarangire is a gem of Tanzania’s northern safari circuit. The park is marked by the winding Tarangire River, supporting a thriving ecosystem of diverse habitats. Its landscape includes granite ridges, floodplains, and acacia woodlands, providing vital water sources during the dry season. Famous for its stunning scenery, the park offers excellent opportunities for game drives, guided walking safaris, and birdwatching. It’s particularly popular in the dry months when animals congregate around water points.
Wildlife
Tarangire is renowned for its large elephant herds, including some of the oldest bulls with massive tusks. The park also hosts lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and waterbuck. With over 550 bird species — including kingfishers, hornbills, and eagles — it is a paradise for bird enthusiasts. During the dry season, vast herds of migratory animals gather along the riverbanks, delivering spectacular wildlife encounters.
